3 questions from Personal Trainers about Workout at home

Posted on: Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Here are the answers to three questions.

Can I keep my existing personal training business and my brand?

Answer

We are providing established personal trainers across the UK with a license to operate under the Workout at home brand. The majority of trainers will keep their existing brand (their website and their company name etc) and add on ‘Workout at home’. This enables them to offer their existing clients the benefits of the ‘Workout at home’ client support package and also benefit from new clients through the ‘Workout at home’ website. There are some trainers who feel that their existing brand is not strong enough in their area and therefore they will be rebranding and operating their business solely as a ‘Workout at home’ licensee. The license is exclusive to just ONE male and female trainer per area and we believe this is the underlying factor why the launch has been so successful.

Why are we only registering personal trainers for just 5 territories each week?

Answer

It will enable us to manage the process effectively and give our SEO team the time to create your profile, carry out the regional optimisation that is required (each territory will have separate pages built for the main towns within that territory) and generate your listing on Google Maps. Our SEO team are experienced and know how to get the results. For example, our team tested just two areas where we currently have not started recruiting for personal trainers (Swansea and Liverpool) and we have the number 1 and 2 spot respectively in Google Maps. We would do exactly the same for your territory and the surrounding areas which is certainly less competitive than Liverpool, and by a long way! If you do a search for a personal trainer in your area you will find we do not appear with Google organic rankings and that’s because we will not start SEO work until a personal trainer joins our team. However, you might like to check what the team have achieved with our parent company website (JJ Fitness and Wellbeing). I would be surprised if there is any other personal training company in the UK that can boast a top 3 ranking in Google for the top 6 search terms in a major city!! You can see the results here: http://www.personaltrainingjobs.co.uk/why-join-5/

Our goal is to ensure that you firstly get noticed in Google should any potential client do a search for a personal trainer in your area and secondly when that client visits the Workout at home website that they choose you ahead of any of your competitors. Hopefully our experience with internet advertising and the professionally designed public facing website gives you the reassurance that the we will generate new enquiries for you.

I am fully booked so will I really benefit by joining Workout at home?

Answer

New Business leads is just one benefit of the license! For most trainers that we have invited they do not need new clients or if they do, they only need a few clients. Personal Trainers have joined for the support systems– that’s the Personal Trainer Support System and Client Support System

1. Home Fitness Training System – somewhere where you can create bespoke training programs for your clients. Also you can add programs to your clients account so they can download those programs – for example you may like to give your clients a flexibility program for when you don’t see them. Clients can not only download the program, they can view the individual videos for each exercise and print off individual circuit cards
2. Food Diary – your clients can keep a food diary which you can access through the support system
3. Refer a Friend Scheme – on the clients homepage they can recommend your services to a friend or colleague. All they need to do is enter their email address and they will get sent your profile. Simple and easy to use but a very effective of generating new clients.
4. Health Assessment Results – you can add these to the support system and your clients can view them and view or print the appropriate report.
5. Health Advice – Get tips and tools for weight loss, information on different diets and advice on health Conditions -Personal training is not just about Fitness. It is important you taking a more holistic approach by considering the health and wellbeing of your clients. Our Health Advice section should help you do this and is provided under license from ‘Healthnotes’. It enables you and your clients to access information on a variety of health and nutritional topics. ‘Healthnotes’ is a reliable, consumer friendly guide to self-care providing you and your clients with information on specific Health Conditions, Weight Control, Diet and Fitness, Vitamins and Minerals and Homeopathy. Whilst we have purchased the product for you and your clients, we have also added it to our public facing website because the content will help us with search engine optimisation and ensure even more potential clients get to hear more about your services. ‘Workout at home’ is the only personal training company in the UK to subscribe to this product ensuring you are providing an additional service that your competitors aren’t .
6. Marketing – we provide you with leaflet designs, posters and Press Releases. These have all been professionally designed, tested and have achieved results.
7. Nutrition – Our partnership with a nutrition consultant will help you to help your clients make positive changes to their diet and general health
Helping your clients make positive changes to their diet is important and therefore the nutritional support package you provide clients can be the difference between a client choosing you or one of your competitors. Whilst you are there to answer any questions that you may be asked regarding nutrition we have also teamed up with Lucy-Ann Prideaux, a nutrition consultant with a Masters Degree in Nutrition and 20 years experience in the field of health and nutrition. She has a nutrition consultancy practice called Simply Nutrition providing dietary & lifestyle coaching and support to individuals and groups, and is founder of Dailybread365. Our partnership with Lucy-Ann has enabled us to provide an extensive nutritional support package that will help you to provide your clients with the information they need.

Consider other forms of marketing for your personal training business

Posted on: Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Good advertising is about putting the right messages in front of the right people at the right time. It is important that you know your target market but also that you know about all the different options of where you can market your personal training service. It is important to identify the marketing strategy of your competitors and then act upon this accordingly. Your SWOT analysis may identify that your competitors do not do any vehicle advertising.

It is therefore important that you know about other ways you can market your business.
Networking
Networking is valuable to all types of business but particularly personal trainers because YOU are YOUR business. ‘Word of mouth’ recommendation is one of the most powerful marketing mediums and whilst some people find networking easier than others it’s something that everyone can do, so try and use it.
Human Billboard System
Try and find an army of 20 to 30 people who would serve as your ‘referral army’ in exchange for free group training. All you need to do is hire a local village hall or something similar once a week and provide your ‘referral army’ with a complimentary training session. You would provide them with marketing literature and ask them to spread the word about your personal training services. Remember what it has cost you – maybe £10 for the hall and an hour of your time each week
Business Referral Network Circle
•Create a list of local businesses that serve your ideal client
•The chiropractor
•The tanning salon
•The day spa
•The massage therapist
•The supplement store
•The physical therapist
•The high end hair salons
•The health food stores
•And the boutique dress shops
Then you walk into each of these businesses and offer the owners/manager and the staff free membership to your group training sessions. Again you must have already decided where and at what times you are going to offer these classes. In exchange provide them with marketing literature and ask them to spread the word about your personal training services.
I know what you’re thinking………….. How can you train all those people for free?

First, you should know that only 30% will take you up on the offer – but near 100% will feel obligated to send you referrals because they feel that they have access to your offer at anytime. It’s like insurance.

Now here’s the most important thing to make the “business referral network circle” marketing system work. Tell the business owner/manager that in exchange for the referral cards that they pass out, you plan to refer all you’re clients to their business making it a perfect “referral network circle.”

What business owner in their right mind would not want to get in shape for free and get more referrals from you?
Online Networking
As well as face-to-face networking, you can also make new contacts online by contributing to relevant chat rooms or forums. Look for online communities that are a good match for your business. You could raise your profile locally by joining online debates about issues that affect you, from planning to recycling.

The golden rule is to be helpful and not to use the forum to overtly sell your services. Above all, networking is not about a quick sale, it’s about building relationships in the long term.
Networking Events
There are many local networking events so become an active participant in your sector or in the local community. Get involved with debates and discussions and attend events to get your name out there. Your local Chamber of Commerce will be able to recommend events where you will be able to make new business contacts but also you will be able to find out about the networking events in your area by visiting http://www.findnetworkingevents.com
Outdoor
Marketing does not have to be limited to leaflets, posters, emails and websites. The great outdoors present many marketing opportunities and it does not require the consumer to do anything. You don’t have to tune in or turn a page. At the same time, most people regard it as less intrusive than other methods of advertising. Indeed, a lot of outdoor advertising engages the consumer, providing colour, humor and insight.

Performing a personal training sessions outside in the park with your branded clothing on immediately provides you with an audience full of potential clients.

The transport network provides opportunities to get valuable outdoor exposure for your business. Advertising on buses, trains, trams, the tube, taxis and at airports are all highly visible. One of the key advantages of these positions is that they can put your advert in front of a captive audience. Advertising on public transport is ideal if you are targeting business people and commuters in your area.

It is also worth customising your company car. Vehicle advertising is highly visible and it conveys an aura of success and professional pride. It can also carry your contact details
Press Release Distribution
Many small businesses consider the prospect of getting press coverage unattainable. However, a good story submitted well has every chance of making the news, and best of all it’s free. We have provided you with three choices of Press Release. They have been professionally written by The Press Dispensary – a UK-based press release writing service.

So how do you get a newspaper article published? Here are just a few tips to follow.
•Check your local newspaper, does it have a Health and Fitness section? If not ask to be a freelancer and submit articles to be published. If it does, see if you can add something a little extra or more niche specific. You may suggest that you run a weekly fitness column.
•Invite a local reporter to come and experience your services. Spend a couple of hours putting them through their paces in return for a review article.
•Buy an Advertorial – If you cannot get an article published pay for one. Don’t be shy in coming forward. Approach a local paper, tell them you only have a £100 budget but want an advertorial and if it works for you you’ll consider future advertising opportunities, you’ll be surprised.
•Submit a Press Release through one of the online services, e.g. the Press Release distribution service offered by The Press Dispensary. These often get picked up by regional papers. Think about your title when you do this, it works like SEO so you should think what you want your press release to rank for in the search engines and include it in the title

Direct Marketing -some useful tips for you!

Posted on: Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Direct marketing is about making direct contact with existing and potential customers to promote your personal training service. It enables you to target particular people with a personalised message. It can be cost effective and extremely powerful at generating sales, however most personal trainers give up too easily.

From leaflet drops to poster placement and email marketing, direct marketing allows you to target customers with greater accuracy than any other method, but know your target market……it is so important!

A direct marketing campaign with a clear call to action can help you generate new clients. You can evaluate, measure and analyse your results to see which target group was most responsive.

Direct marketing works because it puts your message in front of people. However, unsolicited letters, phone calls, faxes, emails and texts must only be sent to people and businesses that have given permission to be contacted. The Data Protection Act is complex and privacy laws are becoming tighter. It is your responsibility to check that your direct marketing activities are within the law.

Leafleting – Leaflets & flyers are often derided and yet they are one of the most popular ways of promoting a business. Although response rates are often very low, leaflets are not expensive and can be an extremely good way of targeting your market through placing information about your company directly into the hands of your potential clients. However, choosing the location and target group is essential for this activity to be effective. Handing out personal training leaflets to the homeless is pointless, and although is an extreme example, it makes the point that you will have had to prepare where you are going to leaflet drop and who you target market is.

The design of the leaflet, the type (A6, A5 and so on) and the distribution method all have an impact on the response rate. If you become a Workout at home licensee you will be able to access a wide range of leaflet designs that have proven results!!

There are a number of different distribution options available to you:
• Through letterboxes – Solus distribution (delivered on its own), or Shared distribution
• Placed in magazines
• Included in mail shots
• Placed on car windscreens
• Handed out to passers-by
• Left in public places for people to pick up
Be careful of outsourcing your leaflet delivery because you might find that they do not all get delivered.

Tip: Consider getting a small group of friends and family together and get them to commit to helping you deliver leaflets for one day a month. In exchange you give them for some FREE personal training. You could arrange a group session for three or four people at someone’s home once a week It costs you four hours of your time every month providing training in exchange for twenty to thirty hours of leaflet delivery help every month. That has got to be a good deal!
Poster Distribution-Similar to leafleting, posters are great if positioned in the most effective places. Our A3 posters are eye catching. Consider where in your local area you could place them. If you want to tackle obesity then GP Surgeries and Health Centers are a good starting off point. Again if you were to join our Workout at home team we have designed a range of Posters for you.

Tip: Try and see the Practice Manager or if he/she is not there call back and arrange to see them. Otherwise you will find that the poster you leave with the receptionist will end up in the bin and not on the notice board
Email Marketing-Promoting your personal training service by email can be a powerful and flexible form of direct marketing. You can communicate your messages quickly and cheaply but more importantly you can tailor your message to target the right people at the right time.

Direct marketing via email is ideal for personal trainers because most enquiries tend to come through the website. Email messages can highlight specific messages and then prompt recipients to click through to the website. As a result response rates tend to be higher than other forms of direct marketing thanks to the immediacy of the medium.

Email marketing does present some challenges;
•The law on email marketing – You must have permission to email the recipient. It is illegal to send unsolicited emails.
•Creating your marketing emails – messages need to be interesting and relevant. Send one or two irrelevant messages and your prospects may start deleting all your emails, or even unsubscribe.
•Measuring the response to your emails – Tracking the results will enable you to identify what is working and what is not.

At Workout at home we know what works so if you would rather focus on what you do best……..personal training……….. then consider joining our team. Remember ONLY ONE MALE AND ONE FEMALE TRAINER PER AREA CAN JOIN!
